I first meet Kiet through a program called TRIO at Houston Baptist University a few months before my first year in college started. I feel so privileged to have had Kiet as my success coach, whose guidance has gone far beyond helping me plan my course work: Kiet helped me navigate my first year through college that initially as a First Generation student felt so daunting. Having someone like Kiet helped me learn how to set goals that were both attainable in and out of class, he even helped me get out of my comfort zone and make new friends by encouraging me to apply for a student leadership position with TRIO Student Support Services, which itself was a life-altering experience. Kiet is genuinely passionate about helping others, and I can confidently say without his help during my first semester of college I wouldn't be where I am today.

Kiet is an encouraging and motivating person. As my success coach, he helped me set realistic goals. I remember a time I came into his office drawing a blank. I accomplished my academic goal of a 3.0 GPA the semester before and didn’t know what else to strive for. Kiet was honest and reframed my way of thinking. He was relatable and shared his own goal. He explained sometimes you don’t have to set a new or flashy goal. It can be just as challenging maintaining the goals you’ve already accomplished. He was not wrong.
